Gulf Region
JSRI looks at the Gulf South as a region because there are many common characteristics of the Gulf States, especially in the areas of race, poverty, and migration. One or another state may stand out from the others at times, for better or worse; but the region as a whole shares common attitudes, political orientations, and a legacy of slavery, racism, and discrimination against African Americans and/or Hispanic Americans.
Research and analysis that focuses primarily on one of the five Gulf South states can be found by clicking on the respective statein the left-hand menu.
