Highlights include how Florida’s most onerous voter registration drive restrictions were blocked by a Federal court and how a law in Texas requiring a photo id was also blocked by a Federal Court and will not be in effect for the 2012 election. Perhaps the most disconcerting development is the appeal to the United States Supreme Court by Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted. A Federal Appeals Court had decided that Ohio voters would be “irreparably injured” if early in-person voting from November 3 through 5 was eliminated. Husted is appealing that decision to the Supreme Court arguing that “this is an unprecedented intrusion by the federal courts into how states run elections…”
