<p>On December 19, 2011, Alabama's two Catholic Bishops, leaders of the Methodist and Episcopal Churches, and the heads of Alabama's two major monasteries called upon Governor Bentley to lead the effort to repeal Alabama's new anti-immigrant law. The letter also set out key principles for the treatment of immigrants in the state and for any state legislation dealing with immigrant families.</p>
<p>On December 17, 2011, 2,500 people conducted a rally at the Governor's mansion in Montgomery calling for repeal of the statute.
